| SOUTHWEST HORTICULTURE DAY OF EDUCATION (S.H.A.D.E.) | ||
SHADE 2008: An Award Winning Educational Program Sponsored by the Arizona Nursery Association SHADE: Southwest Horticulture Annual Day of Education will be held on Friday, August 8, 2008 at The Buttes Resort in Tempe, Arizona, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Four tracks will be presented by industry experts. The Design Track has been endorsed by the Arizona Society of Landscape Architects. The four tracks are: Business, featuring a moderated panel discussion on Pointing Fingers, Passing the Buck: HOAs, Property Managers, Owners and Landscapers; Greening Up the Slackers: In Search of Gen-X Gardeners, by Scott Calhoun, Zona Gardens; Sustainability Movement and the Green Industry, by Craig Regelbrugge, American Landscape & Nursery Association; and Labor Issues, by Craig Regelbrugge, American Landscape & Nursery Association; Design, which includes Revitalizing Aging Landscapes, by Laurel Arndt, ASU College of Design; Maintenance Specs; Shade Canopies; and Designing Natural Water Features, by Paul Holdeman, The Pond Gnome; Trees & Plants, featuring Caring for Palms, by Mary Irish, author and lecturer; Enduring, Easy Care Trees, by Greg Corman, Gardening Insights; Considerations for Trees in Aging Landscapes, by John Eisenhower, Integrity Tree Service; and Salvaging Sheared Plants, by Kirti Mathura, Desert Botanical Garden; and Pest Management & Plant Health, which includes Fertility and Salinity in Soils, by Jim Walworth, Ph.D., University of Arizona; New Products for Pest Control and Weeds, by Kai Umeda, Maricopa County Cooperative Extension; Plant Disease Diagnosis: Practical Applications for Urban Horticulture, by Mary Olsen, Ph.D., University of Arizona; and Noxious Weeds, by Ed Northam, Ph.D., Maricopa County Cooperative Extension. Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be available from ADA, GCSAA, SPCC, and WCISA. A complete list of session descriptions and presenters will be available soon on the Arizona Nursery Association's website, www.azna.org. The cost for early registration (by July 31) is $88 per person and includes lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments, and an hors d'oeuvres reception.
